MBSA council member, three friends fined RM1,000 each for violating MCO

CORONAVIRUS | A member of the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and his three friends who were detained for violating the movement control order (MCO) while playing badminton at a hall were fined RM1,000 each by the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court.

Selangor police Covid-19 operations spokesperson, ACP Mohd Ismail Muslim said the four offenders were fined yesterday after they pleaded guilty to the charges under Regulation 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

“The four individuals later paid their fines,” he said at a media conference in Shah Alam today.

Last Friday, the MBSA council member and his three friends were detained for playing badminton at a hall in Section 25, Shah Alam, while the MCO was in force.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ismail also stressed that the ban on performing prayers in a congregation at mosques and suraus is still in effect until the MCO has ended.

"If the MCO is extended until Ramadan, Muslims and worshippers are still not allowed to perform terawih prayers in mosques and suraus except the imam, bilal and siak,” he said.

Commenting on the RM1,000 fine on individuals for defying MCO, Mohd Ismail said since it was implemented yesterday, 24 individuals had been issued the compound.

Therefore, he hoped the people would comply with MCO to break the Covid-19 infection chain.
