CORONAVIRUS | Police detained 110 people yesterday for not complying with the movement control order (MCO), announced Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Five percent of the population are still not complying with the order, he said.

"I have explained that police may change their ways, from giving advice and being nice, to taking stern action.

"This is what the people want. I have received many messages from the people, who don't want the 5 percent who are stubborn to impact the 95 percent who comply with the order," Ismail said at a press conference today.

He said police inspected 163,487 vehicles yesterday.

Ismail said in an effort to improve compliance, the National Security Council will be issuing stricter guidelines on Saturday.

Meanwhile, he said police will also be equipped with head thermometers to check body temperatures during roadblocks.

On a separate matter, Ismail said local council and fire departments will be disinfecting public places, especially those in red zones.

He said the army may also be roped in to help with disinfections.

Asked for specifics, he said the disinfection exercise will be carried out at markets, mosques and other public places.
