Amid a rift within Bersatu over its prime minister candidate, Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin had requested to meet with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The matter was revealed by Bersatu leadership council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan who said that many members wished to see their leaders reunite.
In his meeting with Muhyiddin on Friday, Wan Saiful said the Bersatu president had attempted to arrange a meeting with Mahathir, whose position as chairperson is being questioned after he resigned but later retracted the decision.
"He (Muhyiddin) has written a letter to Dr Mahathir and requested to meet. Now, he is just waiting for the date.
"We pray that Mahathir will agree to meet as soon as possible," he said.
Bersatu is currently divided into two camps after Muhyiddin was appointed as prime minister and marked the downfall of the Harapan federal government.
The situation saw Mahathir refusing to be with the group of Bersatu leaders who, together with Muhyiddin, agreed to cooperate with Umno in the Perikatan Nasional pact.
Wan Saiful, however, urged Bersatu members to pressure their top leaders to make peace and reconcile.
"Our party is built upon the strength of three main leaders, Tun Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz.
"I hope we can stop issuing statements or organising functions that do not contribute towards reconciliation," he said.
"There is no need to go to local news agencies or international outlets to destroy the party.
"We should settle it internally in the family spirit," he added.
