Newly-minted Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has appointed Marzuki Mohamad as his chief private secretary.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said the appointment came into effect on March 1, the day Muhyiddin was sworn in as the eighth premier.
Marzuki (above), 46, previously served under Muhyiddin in various capacities, beginning as the latter’s special officer in 2009 to 2013 when Muhyiddin was deputy prime minister under BN.
Marzuki, who is a law graduate from the International Islamic University (IIUM), also served as Muhyiddin's political secretary when the latter was at the Education Ministry from 2013 to 2015 and later as special functions officer when the Bersatu president was appointed home minister under the Pakatan Harapan government in 2018.
Marzuki obtained his Masters of Arts in political science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and his PhD from the Australian National University in Australia and previously served as a law lecturer and associate professor at IIUM.
