Police probe is to silence us, says activist Fadiah Nadwa

Newday: Can the police just stop this ridiculous time-wasting investigation? I suppose you received many vexatious reports from the far right. You do not have to act on them.

What was this rally (to protest against the setting up of the Perikatan Nasional government)? People were upset over last week’s vomit-inducing political shenanigans. Were they screaming for death to those involved, sloganising Allah Akbar? Waving the keris? No.

They were discussing democracy at its worst. All the police appear to be in this is being an enforcement arm of the government. Is it back to the bad old days already? I hope not.

Never have you ever come out against those who lodge these vexatious police reports. Can we expect any change soon? Not now, given that the government has changed hands.

Anonymous 2043581479977820: Indeed, is it necessary to investigate all police reports lodge? I think not, right? What big harm has the protest generated?

Please PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police), use a bit of common sense and focus your energies on more important issues.

Harapan failed to repeal Sedition Act when it had the chance: ex-Bar chief

Kahlil Gibran: Pakatan Harapan failed to do a lot of things that led to their own downfall. The main thing is they should have done is passed a law preventing party hopping.

But they actually encourage it and allowed 16 Umno and PBS lawmakers frog to Bersatu. Why didn't Harapan stop party hopping and pass an anti-hopping law?

If this law was there today, Harapan would still be in power.

The Wakandan: Harapan actually was then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Anyway, that's how he operates. He does not listen to anybody nor he wants them to voice out their disagreement.

In that way, Harapan was paralysed. It was Mahathir running the show.

Constitutional Supremacy: Harapan’s manifesto was for five years. Laws just cannot be changed overnight. Committees had been set up and they were seeking public feedback.

Talking and finding fault is easy. But, of course, readers have the right to say their bit. The challenge is why you do not demand changes from the new government.

Anonymous_1576570046459.34861576569193251: I do not know how Mahathir will be remembered. I, for one, will remember him as a divisive, self-centred megalomaniac who got a second chance to right the wrongs done by him but screwed up big time.

God (through the people) gave him the opportunity to do so. But even God could not reform him. Too bad he has to face it when he meets Him.

Muhyiddin Yassin was the home minister so his ministry was supposed to be the prime driver to abolish the Sedition Act. His ministry did not.

Muhyiddin also didn't remove Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from the terrorism gazette despite having three opportunities to do so since 2018 because he decided that he didn't want to do so.

I believe the majority of the blame falls squarely on the shoulder of Muhyiddin. He is definitely not the PM for the people.

FairMind: In July last year, Muhyiddin, who is now prime minister, said that the government was "reviewing" the Sedition Act, but had not decided what to do with it.

It obvious now, isn't it? Muhyiddin and former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali were planning to take over the government through the backdoor.

They have the intention to use the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) and Sedition Act in taking over the government.

Any attempts to criticise the backdoor government and the royalty and Agong will be met with actions and intimidation. The same thing with the coming Senate appointments.

Musang Queen: Our laws, our institutions need to be able to withstand and protect us from what happened last week.

The Sedition Act must go - constructive criticism is a service to the nation, and much higher form of nationalism than harping on being 'Melayu first'.
