1. On his first day in office, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin made a televised address pledging to be a prime minister for all Malaysians and to appoint a corruption-free cabinet.

2. Muhyiddin said he did not covet the position of prime minister and merely stepped in to resolve an impasse, while his predecessor Dr Mahathir Mohamad told his allies that Muhyiddin had betrayed him. Sources said Bersatu’s defeat at the Tanjung Piai by-election is also a factor.

3. The Kuala Lumpur High Court will decide today whether to cite Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for contempt of court for allegedly lying about a meeting with Muhyiddin to discuss the cabinet line-up.

4. The Pakatan Harapan-led state governments of Malacca and Perak have collapsed in wake of last weeks’ political developments, while Kedah is in danger of following suit.

5. The Malaysian Bar and civil society groups have criticised police investigations against activists protesting against Muhyiddin’s coup, while Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador reminded protestors to abide with the law.
