Bersatu Youth is demanding party president Muhyiddin Yassin to state his stance on the criminal charges against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
This is after Zahid (above, right) issued a statement saying the case against him was political and selective prosecution.
"Does Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) agree that the prosecution against Zahid is political and selective?
"Did the grassroots and members not struggle to ensure Zahid's wrongdoings were brought to justice on the principles of transparency and public interest?" the youth wing said in a statement.
Bersatu Youth is controlled by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who was against Muhyiddin forming a new coalition government with Umno.
Zahid had pleaded not guilty to a total of 47 charges, 12 of which are for CBT, eight for bribery and 27 for money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
He was indicted for CBT involving a fund of RM31 million by Yayasan Akalbudi, receiving bribes of RM21.25 million and money laundering involving RM65 million, among other charges.
Earlier today, the trial was postponed after his lawyer said the Bagan Datuk MP needed to meet with Muhyiddin.
Zahid's lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik said the presence of his client was “necessary” for a discussion with the prime minister.
However, the Prime Minister's Department denied this.
Zahid, when contacted, told Malaysiakini, the matter was a misunderstanding.
"There was no lie. It was due to a junior lawyer making a mistake when informing the court. It has been rectified," he said.
He has been called back to court.
