Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman became the youngest leader of a Bersatu division when he won the post yesterday.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Syed Saddiq (photo) said he had begun his job as Muar Bersatu division chief after being given the mandate to hold the post.
As the party's youngest leader, he said the responsibility he had to carry was considerable.
"Thank you to the many people who helped and played a vital role in this victory. Many people behind the scenes have contributed to this success," said Syed Saddiq, who is also the MP for Muar.
"From the grassroots right up to the central leadership, the party needs to be strengthened.
"I want Muar to be safe, peaceful and enjoyable for its people, while at the same time being able to thrive and provide a high quality of life for its people," he said.
Syed Saddiq, who also heads Bersatu's youth wing Armada, was elected to replace Deputy Federal Territories Minister Shahruddin Md Salleh.
Syed Saddiq will also be defending his post as Armada chief.
