The Transport Ministry's plans to review laws concerning drunk-driving has received the support of Bersatu Youth.
Its chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said this was a safety issue and not about race or religion.
"Your mistake (of driving under the influence) can be fatal. Innocent lives are lost due to this stupid mistake," he said in a Facebook post.
On Thursday, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said drunk-driving laws would be reviewed and raised in the cabinet next week.
This follows a recent accident involving a drunk driver which killed one motorcyclist and injured two others.
At present, drunk-driving is punishable under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act, which carries a jail sentence of between three and 10 years and a fine of between RM8,000 and RM20,000.
A severely inebriated person who is not driving but is in the driver's seat of a vehicle can also be fined under Section 45 of the same act with a fine of up to RM1,000 and up to three months jail for the first offence.
