Inspired by BN’s victory in the Kimanis by-election in Sabah, Sarawak PAS information chief Zharudin Narudin has hinted that his party is keen to contest under the dacing symbol.
Zharudin (above) told the Malay Mail Online that Sarawak PAS chapter does not have any problem using BN’s symbol if it helps the party to win in the state election which must be called by next year at the latest.
“The ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should also be aware that the BN’s symbol will give a competitive edge if there is a candidate using it,” he said.
Zharudin added that Kimanis was an early sign that the Muafakat Nasional (MN) agreement between Umno and PAS in Peninsular Malaysia has begun to be accepted in Borneo.
He called on GPS, which dominates the state legislature with 72 out of 82 seats, to evaluate its position and consider joining the MN.
Zharudin said Sarawak PAS which holds no seats in the state, is open to negotiation and cooperation with GPS.
He said the party’s members and supporters are loyal to whatever the leadership directs them to do.
However, Zharudin added that PAS would not make way in the Beting Maro seat where it had done relatively well, polling between 38 and 46 percent in the last three state elections
Beting Maro is currently held by GPS’ Razali Gapor.
