A Wanita Umno division chief in Kelantan is alleged to have a dual-party membership, having registered as a member of rival party Bersatu while keeping her position in Umno.
This was revealed by a source to Malaysiakini today, saying that it had been a hot issue on Whatsapp groups.
According to the source, Whatsapp messages on the matter revealed the politician as Tanah Merah Wanita Umno division chief Dayang Saniah Awang Hamid.
"I am not sure how far is the truth of this message. Maybe (you) have to check with both parties," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
When contacted later, Tanah Merah Bersatu division chief Bahari Mohd Nor confirmed that Dayang Saniah is listed as a Bersatu member.
He said they would investigate the allegation that Dayang Saniah was holding membership in two parties.
"I am outstation at the moment. I have contacted the division secretary, who confirmed that Dayang Saniah's name is in the list. However, I will have to contact the party headquarters for further confirmation.
"Of course we will investigate this," he said.
It was understood that Dayang Saniah had been holding the post in Tanah Merah Umno division since the last two terms.
Meanwhile, Bahari said the division would list out names of its member that has dual membership to Bersatu headquarters and will take action accordingly.
Malaysiakini is trying to get response from Dayang Saniah on the matter.
