All activities in Putrajaya covering safety, traffic, environmental quality, infrastructure and natural disasters are now monitored 24 hours by the Putrajaya Command Centre (PCC), which is now equipped with the latest technology.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said the PCC played a very important role in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors to Putrajaya.

The initiative under the Putrajaya City Smart Blueprint is being used in collaboration with various authorities and agencies, including the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters, the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force, the Putrajaya Hospital, the National Security Council and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department, he said.

"It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All CCTV (closed-circuit cameras) are monitored at all times," he said.

Khalid said among the technologies used were Smart CCTVs with high-quality video quality capable of detecting distances of up to 4km and panic buttons that could communicate with CCTV in case of emergency.

There are 262 CCTVs and 39 panic buttons connected to the PCC and the Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) plans to add 200 CCTVs and another 50 panic buttons by next year, he said.

With the use of Intelligent Video Analytic (IVA) technology, the system will help staff to provide early warning in the event of suspicious incidents, he said.
