Police have arrested 28 suspects following an altercation at a Hindu temple in Sungai Darah, Kuala Selangor last night, which saw part of a man’s hand being chopped off.
According to Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat, all 28 suspects have been remanded for five days, beginning today.
The fight, which took place at about 9.15pm, erupted between two groups during a chariot procession at the temple in Bestari Jaya.
“As the procession was going on, an argument between two groups erupted over the installation of a tent, which ended with a fight with machetes.
“A member of the public sustained injuries, in which part of his left palm was severed, and is being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital,” he said in a statement.
Fadzil added that police on duty were also attacked when trying to calm the groups down.
A 34-year-old police officer sustained injuries to his hand, requiring six stitches.
Aside from the 28 suspects, police also confiscated five sharp weapons.
“The situation at the scene is under control,” he added.
