Police have confirmed that a 15-year-old Irish girl with special needs went missing while on a holiday with her family in Malaysia.

Nilai district police chief Mohamad Nor Marzukee Besar said that a police report was lodged over the girl’s disappearance at The Dusun resort in Pantai Hills.

“Based on a preliminary police probe, the family comprising a couple and three children from Ireland had checked into the resort at 7am on Aug 3.

“However, the family found one of the children named Nora Anne missing from her room at 8.30am the following morning,” he said, as reported by The Star last night.

A search has since been conducted in the area by the Fire and Rescue Department with the assistance of a police team, but they have yet to find the missing girl.

“We are continuing with the search and we have also informed all district police chiefs to help out,” Nor Marzukee was quoted as saying.

The BBC had earlier reported that Nora Quoirin was with her family in Malaysia for a two-week trip.

They were staying at a tropical rainforest resort in Seremban when she went missing from the hotel.

The BBC report quoted a family friend who said the disappearance was “completely out of character,” and that Quoirin’s parents were “frantic.”

The family had checked into their hotel and went to bed, but Quoirin had disappeared when they woke up, and her room window was opened, the friend said.

A man claiming to be Quoirin’s uncle had also posted on Facebook about her disappearance.

“Any friends with connections in Malaysia, please get in touch if you think you can help in any way. My niece (Quoirin) has gone missing in Seremban an hour or so from Kuala Lumpur.

“She is 15 with special needs, and hasn’t been seen since everyone went to bed last night,” Dominic Graham said in his Facebook post.

The BBC also reported that the family had been travelling using Irish passports, although they had been staying in the UK for at least two decades.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post this morning, The Dusun said its management and staff were working with police to locate Quoirin.

“Our staff searched our 12-acre property all Sunday morning and then joined the police search of the surrounding area until 3am this morning.

“We are giving what support we can to Nora’s distraught family,” it said.

The hotel urged locals and the wider community to provide any information they had to the Pantai police.
