Zahid: 'Indebted' Anwar needs DAP for his goal, sees them as always right

Anwar Ibrahim needs DAP in order to realise his political ambitions and therefore considers the party to be always right, said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He was responding to the PKR president asking him to cite reasons for branding the predominantly Chinese party as racist.

Instead of providing examples to substantiate his claim, the Umno leader, however, trained his guns on Anwar.

"Anwar is too indebted to DAP,” he said in a statement this evening.

"Everything DAP does is seen as right as the party has become the backbone of his political cooperation and it must be supported for him to achieve his political ambitions," he added.

He said Anwar should resolve PKR's internal rift before commenting on Umno.

Previously, Zahid said Umno and PAS have entered into a pact to reject DAP and would not align themselves with those who work with the party.

In his statement today, the Bagan Datuk MP said Umno and BN would never practice racism or religious discrimination.

"Our agenda to take care of the interest of all races and religions will continue as it did when we were the government.

"The cooperation between Umno and PAS together with other parties of various races and religions will include policies that take care of all," he added.

According to Zahid, those who view Umno as racist are “ingrates” (kacang lupakan kulit).

Earlier today, Anwar described Zahid's position as "clearly racist."

"To me, to meet (the goals of) the country, you must be able to work with any Malaysian or any political party which shares the same principles and ideals.

"They must be specific. They disagree with DAP on what?

"They cannot just generalise and condemn the party over principles. I have worked with DAP, and I have no problem with that," he was reported as saying.
