Cops arrest man who drove car with children on boot

Police have arrested a man suspected of driving his car in Pasir Gudang while two boys were lying downwards against the boot, back glass and roof of the vehicle, with their faces looking upwards.

According to Seri Alam district police chief Ismail Dollah, the 49-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Taman Nusa Damai, near Pasir Gudang at about 7.45pm yesterday, while the Toyota Vios car used in the incident was also seized, after police received information from the public.

The man has been remanded for two days in connection with investigations under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangerment of life or personal safety, while statements were also taken from three boys aged 10 to 12 believed to be involved in the incident, with one of them being a child of the suspect.

Bernama reported yesterday that the incident was captured on video and photographs which were posted on the Facebook page of the Taman Scientex community, and police had received a complaint yesterday morning from an individual in connection with the Facebook posting.

The report had also stated that there was no information as yet on the date and time of the incident believed to have taken place in the day time in the Taman Scientex area in Pasir Gudang, in which the moving car was also found to have beaten a red traffic light.

Meanwhile, state Tourism, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairperson and Johor Jaya assemblyperson Liow Cai Tung congratulated the police on their swift action, and said the incident should be viewed seriously as it had endangered the children and other road users.

She said that there should be no tolerance of such offences and called for stern action to be taken by the police and other enforcement agencies, adding that witnesses of such incidents should alert the police immediately and not just record them.
