An autopsy on the body of the deceased PhD student Orhions Ewansiha Thomas has revealed no signs of physical injury, said the Chancellor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital.

“Based on a detailed forensic examination of the deceased, forensic specialists have confirmed that there is no sign of physical injury on the deceased’s body.

“A full autopsy report will be issued once laboratory test results, including toxicology (tests), are obtained to ascertain the cause of death,” the hospital said in a statement today.

The finding appears to confirm Immigration Department director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud’s statement that there was no sign the 34-year-old Nigerian had been physically assaulted.

Khairul previously said Thomas had died after suffering a seizure in his sleep, while the latter was being held at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot.

Meanwhile, the hospital said it had received an emergency call on July 9 at 12.08am regarding a detainee who was unconscious after suffering convulsions.

An ambulance was sent at 12.10am and arrived at the detention centre at 12.30am, where Thomas was pronounced dead and later sent to the hospital at 5am for an autopsy.
