A draft charter for cooperation between Umno and PAS has been submitted to leaders of the respective parties, said Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa (above).
The document should be ready after Hari Raya, he told reporters in Kota Bharu today.
"Now we have taawun (cooperation). We are doing things in stages. At first, our cooperation (was not formalised) in writing.
"After (cooperating) during three by-elections, things have gone well," said Annuar, who is co-chairing a technical committee to formalise ties between the two parties.
He said the charter would allow both parties to cooperate better at both the national and state levels.
"This is just the beginning for Umno and PAS in our effort to restore Malay-Muslim political solidarity.
"It won't stop here because our politics is based on politik majmuk (pluralistic politics). A national consensus is needed. It will begin with Umno and PAS," Annuar added said.
He said Umno and PAS will forge alliances with other political parties and groups in the future.
"We want to forge a large framework which can truly save this country. This is important because the public should not have to shoulder the responsibility of Pakatan Harapan's failures."
