PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has guaranteed that Tabung Haji’s (TH) hibah will be announced soon after a decision by the cabinet.

He also said the proposal on the restructuring and rejuvenation of TH would be tabled during the cabinet meeting tomorrow.

“The cabinet will deliberate the matter in detail, on the financial position and matters related to it including on TH’s capability to pay hibah to depositors.

“TH will make an announcement soon after a decision by the cabinet,” he said during Minister’s Question Time at Dewan Rakyat today.

The prime minister said this when answering a question posed by Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) on when the government will announce hibah payment to 9.3 million of TH’s depositors.

Based on past records, TH according to her, would normally announce the amount of hibah payment in February, but there was no announcement on the matter until now, which had caused anxiety among the fund’s depositors.

Meanwhile, Mahathir said the cabinet would also discuss issues pertaining to TH’s assets that were bought above market price, with the full details on what had happened to the fund to be shared.

“The reality that publicly known is, there was huge theft by (former) TH’s management and this has definitely affected our capability to provide a return to TH’s depositors,” he said.
