Police are hunting for a Singaporean man to assist in investigations into the Sungai Kim Kim chemical waste pollution case in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kaded Mohd said the man, in his 30s, was on the wanted list.

“The man is also the owner of a factory and we are awaiting assistance from our counterparts in Singapore to arrest him,” he told a press conference at the Johor Police headquarters here today.

He said that earlier 11 people were arrested to assist in investigations, but eight were released on police bail.

Three others were charged in court today under Section 34B(1)(A) of the Environment Quality Act 1974.

He also stressed that police had worked as hard as they could to arrest the suspects involved in the case based on the facts they received.

“Many netizens said police were just putting on a show and such regarding the case. We work conscientiously and do the best we can. We do not simply arrest anyone, we only do it based on facts, and when we make the arrests, we also make sure that our case is air-tight, only then will we charge them in court.

“So, I urge netizens not to hurt the feelings of my officers and personnel, who have been working hard to rectify the situation for the well-being of the people of Johor,” he said.
