Bersatu is yet to make a decision on former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik's application to join the party.
"A decision has yet to be made by our leadership," party president Muhyiddin Yassin said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Rahim submitted his application to join Bersatu last December.
The move was met with resistance from Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong, who urged Bersatu to reject Rahim's application, claiming that the latter was a scandal-plagued leader.
Khoo accused Rahim of being part of the 'Datuk Trio' – a group that gained notoriety in 2011 after screening a sex video to journalists, claiming that it depicted PKR president Anwar Ibrahim with a prostitute.
Anwar has denied the allegation.
Khoo also pointed out that Rahim had been investigated for the rape of a minor in 1994, although the case was later dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Rahim yesterday filed a letter of demand against Khoo, seeking an apology and RM1.5 million in compensation, failing which he would initiate a defamation suit.
Khoo has declined to apologise.
