BN acting chairperson Mohamad Hasan has called for a BN supreme council meeting after MCA and MIC said they are exploring a new political alliance.
According to a report by New Straits Times today, Mohamad said he was taking the matter seriously and urged for cool heads to prevail.
“I am taking this matter seriously. I am calling a meeting soon to discuss this,” he was quoted as saying.
Mohamad reportedly said an official statement on the issue will be made after the meeting.
Earlier today, both MCA and MIC jointly announced that they are “moving on” and exploring a new alliance.
This was because of Umno’s silence on its leaders’ racial remarks, particularly that of BN secretary-general Nazri Abdul Aziz, they said.
A source involved in the negotiations between MCA and MIC told Malaysiakini that “moving on” does not necessarily mean the two parties would quit BN.
Instead, the source suggested that the two parties could instead expel Umno.
