Johor DAP: Boo ruining our image, must shed opposition mentality

Johor DAP has accused its committee member Boo Cheng Hau of ruining the party’s image by calling for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s resignation.

"I need to stress that Boo's statement is his personal stance and not sanctioned by Johor DAP. His statement has sullied DAP's image.

"Such action has not only annoyed our allies but pleased our enemies. It does not help us in facing the challenges," state party secretary Tan Hong Pin said in a statement today.

Tan reminded Boo that he is part of the ruling coalition.

"Therefore, Boo needs to shed his old opposition mentality, (and stop) attacking the Pakatan Harapan government," he said.

Tan said that as a senior leader, Boo should be more politically savvy instead of making “irresponsible statements to attract attention”.

"As a Johor DAP committee member, he also has a platform to voice his opinions but he did not raise them through internal channels nor with the state and central leadership," he said.

Tan also questioned Boo's motive for criticising Mahathir, which has drawn the ire of Bersatu leaders.

"Boo, with his wealth of experience, should help the government by proposing policies that can benefit the country.

"Instead, he is on the wrong path with his indiscriminate attacks. His actions have raised the public’s suspicions about his motive," he said.

Boo had asked Mahathir to resign for supposedly failing to comply with Harapan's manifesto.

When contacted, Boo declined to comment.

Tan was Boo's protégé, who was assigned by Johor DAP to take over the latter's Skudai state seat in the last general election.

Tan won the seat with a 35,126-vote majority.

Boo, a former Johor DAP chief, was instead offered the chance to contest in the parliamentary seat of Labis, which he declined.

Another former Johor DAP chief Pang Hok Liong subsequently ran for the seat and won with a 3,408-vote majority.
