Abdul Yazid Kassim has been appointed the new CEO of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), effective Feb 1, 2019, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today.
He will replace Shahril Mokhtar, who stepped down at the end of last year with the conclusion of his contract.
Yazid, who has extensive experience in project management, contract construction and engineering, will be responsible, among others, to manage and implement the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit (MRT2) project within the stipulated timeframe and cost.
"I am confident his appointment as the new CEO will enhance the performance and efficiency of MRT Corp," said Lim, adding that Yazid was formerly the project director of Malakoff Corporation Bhd and head of project management at Zelan Bhd.
The finance minister also said Yazid has vast experience in the field of project management, as well as, construction and engineering contracts, with about 10 years of overseas working experience as construction chief at Qatar Petroleum.
Yazid received a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Manchester and a master's degree in engineering from the University of Warwick.
