YOURSAY | 'Muhyiddin, why does it take an MP to speak up openly before you react?'
Beng Hock's death: Muhyiddin raps Ramkarpal over 'false claim'
Cogito Ergo Sum: A life has gone out in a most suspicious manner.
And all this new Pakatan Harapan government, which was elected on a platform of transparency and openness, can say is that it is still investigating the case?
I miss Karpal Singh badly. He would brook no nonsense.
Malaysian: Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, why does it take MP Ramkarpal Singh to speak up openly before you react?
"I deeply regret the statement (by Ramkarpal)," said the home minister.
No! We regret the slow police action despite your instructions to them. Ramkarpal is a hero - a bit like his father, Karpal.
YTMQ: “As a government MP, he should be more careful when making statements, especially concerning members of the government administration," said Muhyiddin.
Please do not use this argument to suppress backbencher MPs.
If you disagree with Ramkarpal, or if you're saying that Ramkarpal was wrong, then state your case clearly.
Abasir: Would Malaysians have known any of what Muhyiddin is now saying if Ramkarpal hadn't gone public with his criticism?
So, why was no progress update given to the family and Ramkarpal, if indeed the process is going on as claimed?
Ramkarpal is, after all, as Muhyiddin says, a government MP. Could it be Bersatu, as an all-Malay party, does not give a hoot to DAP and would like to continue treating it as the enemy?
Bruclax: This is what new Malaysia is all about. Open and transparent. If the government machinery and other agencies are not performing, lawmakers have the right to question them.
Muhyiddin seems to be operating like the previous regime, as in, 'do not question the leaders and toe the line'.
Why isn't there communication with the relevant people on the development of the investigation? If there was, then Ramkarpal would not need to raise this.
Leaders must be questioned. Keep it up, Ramkarpal.
Annonnymous 080: The days of government MPs toeing the line of the government, even when it is dragging its feet, is over. This is not BN era. Wake up.
Bornean: Muhyiddin, instead of issuing statements to Ramkarpal, you should find out the latest development on the Teoh Beng Hock issue.
You can’t just wash your hand and say 'I’ve done my part'. Do your job effectively, home minister!
Quigonbond: Indeed, Muhyiddin could have saved himself some grief by providing an update from time to time. It's not like he does not know this is a matter of importance to a lot of people.
Mechi: The home minister still not up to the mark. I give him a rating of four (previously under BN, it was a three). A passing mark requires at least five.
My advice to Muhyiddin - shape them up or ship them out, especially the police. Top officials are still sloppy, bureaucratic and taking no proactive initiatives but instead waiting for instructions.
Anonyxyz: I hope before Ramkarpal voices his displeasure again, Muhyiddin should say what the police are doing about the missing pastor and religious activists as well.
Annonnymous 080: Also, what are the police doing about Indira Gandhi's missing daughter, despite the court order?
Are the cops so inefficient that they cannot trace her ex-husband who is living on the fringes of the nation?
Anonymous_ec7c0e35: Home minister, why didn't you clarify this earlier? Why didn't you take a keener interest in this case? Why can't you be a little proactive in this case?
Why didn't you direct the police to act more quickly? Why can't you follow up with the second investigation (Dec 17) to find out why the attorney-general was still not satisfied?
We want a greater sense of urgency on this. Ramkarpal has complained many times on this earlier, why didn't you inform him and the public that actions were being taken?
Putting all together, we can sense that you are not interested. I am glad Ramkarpal has made noise. At least now, there is some response from you.
Rupert16: Muhyiddin, if what you said is true, then why didn’t you reply to Ramkarpal when he wrote to you?
Also, why the silence from your end till now, when many people have been asking about the investigation into Teoh Beng Hock’s death?
Mission Accomplished: So, when are we going to see the police finish their long overdue investigations on the death of Teoh Beng Hock?
Ramkarpal has every right as Teoh’s family lawyer and representative of the people to question the poor performance of the police and Home Ministry.
Home minister, if you are unwell and not up to your job, please resign.
No Fear Nor Favour: Ramkarpal’s statement is in concurrence with the public who seek justice. His statement is very clear and there was no malice intended.
Truth must prevail and it is long overdue.
