Newly appointed PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin today defended the party president's appointments for key positions.

Speaking to reporters in Malacca, he said the new lineup announced by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was a clear signal that the party is now in the good hands of capable top leaders.

According to Berita Harian Online, the appointments made by Anwar were managed through the party's internal channels soon after the close of the party election in November.

"They (central leadership) had given a clear signal that it is important to have solid cooperation between the president and his deputy, which is among the best," he was quoted as saying.

Shamsul – who narrowly missed out on being elected vice-president in the party polls – was commenting on deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali's request for some of these appointments to be reconsidered.

Azmin had claimed that the appointment did not reflect "the principle of fair and just representation of the party member's aspirations."

Shamsul also expressed his belief that Anwar and Azmin could solve the matter themselves, especially since it involves strengthening the party.

He also said that party issues being brought up on social media is not a cause of concern for PKR.

"I think that (bringing up issues on social media) is nothing new, because this has happened before, and for me, it does not weaken the party.

"It is not a big problem to tackle," he said after officiating a fun run and back-to-school assistance programme at a mall.
