Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Seafield, Subang Jaya, should return RM1.5 million in compensation funds and a one-acre relocation site as it is set to retain the land on which the temple currently sits on.

Amirudin said this in response to attorney-general Tommy Thomas' announcement that One City Development Sdn Bhd had agreed to transfer the land to a trust administered by the High Court, with the view to eventually transfer the land to the trustees.

"The Selangor government welcomes the attorney-general's statement about the Seafield temple issue and agrees with the solution proposed by the attorney-general in accordance with the rule of law.

"In relation to this, the Selangor government is of the view that the one-acre (relocation) land and RM1.5 million (previously) paid by the developer as compensation should be returned as part of the solution proposed by the attorney-general," he said in a press statement.

The developer had compensated the temple after the previous trustee agreed to relocate the temple through a consent judgment.

However, the new trustee members, who disagreed with the relocation plan, had resisted the move.

The developer was accused of hiring men to secure the temple on Nov 26, who clashed with temple devotees, triggering two days of riots.

One City Development Sdn Bhd had denied the findings which had been made by the police and announced by Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
