Perak opposition leader Saarani Mohamad claims that he has proof of an alleged plot to topple the state Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
This, he said, was in the form of statutory declarations by five Umno assemblypersons, adding that he even has a photograph of a meeting convened towards that purpose.
“These statutory declarations are concrete proof of what was reported to me by the five assemblypersons. Based on the remarks by the police, probe has already started on the matter and this means I can be called up at any time.
“I’m not lying, or making up stories. I have the statutory declarations of all Umno assemblypersons, met personally by Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson Abdul Aziz Bari.
“He (Aziz) himself went and met them and I have the photographic evidence,” Utusan Malaysia quoted Saarani telling a press conference outside the state legislative assembly building today.
Aziz, of DAP, has been named by Saarani, of orchestrating an alleged plot to topple the state government by pushing for a vote of no confidence against Faizal.
The former academician has denied it, calling Saarani’s claims “cartoonish” and “mathematically impossible”.
In reply, Saarani said Aziz’s denial shows the latter’s “hypocrisy”, and lies.
“Aziz should start living in the ‘real world’ if he does not want to continue being the butt of jokes due to his attitude.
“He (Aziz) thinks he is mighty, because he garnered high votes in the DAP elections. But he has to learn, and remember something – that he is not the only one who has eyes set on the menteri besar’s seat.
“I’m not a liar and I do not have the intention to shame him. I just want to maintain the peace and security in Perak. I do not want any undemocratic attempts to topple the state government,” Saarani was quoted saying.
Pakatan Harapan secretariat chief V Sivakumar has lodged a police report on alleged attempts to topple Faizal’s leadership.
Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming has previously confirmed the existence of a conspiracy to topple the leadership of Faizal.
This was based on the revelation by Perak exco Asmuni Awi on allegedly being approached by certain Perak Umno leaders who offered him the MB post, and urged him to quit Harapan to form a new state government.
