All should be careful when issuing, reporting statements - Home Minister

All parties need to be cautious when issuing and reporting statements, Home Ministry Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

"Everyone, including me, has to be careful...the media should also help, by releasing the correct statement," he told a press conference after attending the ministry's monthly meeting with the police in Bukit Aman.

He said this when asked whether Education Minister Maszlee Malik should be more careful when issuing statements after the one he made in Parliament regarding the inclusion of 1MDB scandal in “history” was misinterpreted.

Muhyiddin said he had contacted Maszlee for clarification over the issue.

“He has made a correction and explained (his previous statement), we accepted the explanation.

“I have also been Minister of Education. If anything is to be included into the syllabus, it has to go through a panel first,” he said.

Maszlee today denied media reports claiming that the 1MDB case would be included in the History syllabus at school.

His press secretary Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari said that the word “history” used by Maszlee in Parliament) did not refer to the syllabus taught in school, but rather the nation’s history in general.

He said the media reports were inaccurate as the decision to include the 1MDB scandal in the History syllabus was up to the curriculum review committee in the Education Ministry.
