The sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, today appointed his grandson Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim Tunku Ismail as the raja muda of Johor.
The sultan proclaimed the appointment at his 60th birthday celebration at Istana Besar. Johor permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah was in attendance.
Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil is the son of the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. He was born on Oct 10 last year.
The proclamation read out is as follows:
“As we all know, the Tunku Mahkota of Johor was blessed with a son on Oct 10, 2017, and was named Tunku Iskandar Abdul Jalil Abu Bakar Ibrahim Ibni Tunku Ismail.
“As such, as per the rights and powers set out in Clause 23 First Part and Clause 7(2E) Second Part of the Johor State Constitution, I, as the Ruler, with the Royal Council, have consented to appoint and proclaim Tunku Iskandar ibni Tunku Ismail as the raja muda of Johor.
“Therefore, from now on, Tunku Iskandar Ibni Tunku Ismail is the second heir to the throne of the Johor, the one who follows after the heir apparent.”
The text of the proclamation was distributed to the media through the Johor Royal Press Office.
At the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim also conferred Johor state awards and medals to 62 individuals, led by Menteri Besar Osman Sapian and State Secretary Azmi Rohani. Both of them received the Darjah Mahkota Johor Yang Amat Mulia Pangkat Pertama Dato’ Sri Paduka Mahkota Johor (SPMJ) award, which carries the title Datuk.
Five individuals were conferred the Darjah Sultan Ibrahim Johor Yang Amat Disanjungi Pangkat Kedua Dato' Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (DMIJ) award, which also carries the title Datuk.
There were Johor Bahru Mayor Amran A Rahman, Johor Land and Mineral Director Mohd Halim Hasbullah, Iskandar Puteri Mayor Adib Azhari Daud, Deputy State Secretary (Development) Ramlee A.Rahman, and Sultan of Johor’s ADC, R Sugumaran.
Sultan Ibrahim also conferred the Darjah Sultan Ibrahim Johor Yang Amat Disanjungi Pangkat Ketiga Setia Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (SIJ) award to 26 recipients and Pingat Sultan Ibrahim Johor Pangkat Kedua (PSI II) medal to 29 others.
