Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah has refused to apologise to Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong for alleging that the latter had worn a "communist uniform" to an army event.
Instead, Azwanddin said it is Liew's party, DAP, that must apologise for numerous insults towards Malays and Islam.
"I will not bow to any threats especially from DAP leaders, and I urge all Malays and Muslims to be brave to demand an open apology from DAP leaders," he said.
He cited several inflammatory but inaccurate examples of alleged anti-Malay remarks by DAP leaders.
One example he claimed was DAP’s RSN Rayer saying "Melayu celaka (damned Malays) and other rude remarks" when the latter was Seri Delima assemblyperson.
Rayer's actual remarks, as proven in court, was "Umno celaka (damned Umno)." The Sessions Court in Penang had ruled that Umno can't be equated with Malays.
Liew had demanded the apology from Azwanddin after explaining that he was wearing the ministry's official bush jacket.
"JMM's accusation is an insult to the Malaysian armed forces as well as the Ministry of Defence.
"The khaki colour has nothing to do with the communists, it is a colour often selected for military uniforms around the world. The colour was even used for the official Royal Malaysian Air Force prior to 1995.
"The office of the deputy (defence) minister calls on JMM to retract the wild allegation that clearly indicates less-than-intelligent behaviour and manners when issuing a statement," Liew said on Facebook.
