Police found a human skeleton in an unoccupied government quarters in Jalan Pesta Bakri in Muar, Johor yesterday.
Muar police chief Zaharudin Rasip said police also discovered an identification card near to the skeleton and that a next-of-kin had confirmed that it belonged to a family member who went missing two years ago.
“A team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Muar District Police Headquarters and a forensic team from the Specialist Hospital Sultanah Fatimah conducted an investigation at the scene and found there were no elements of foul play.
“An investigative procedure was made to determine the cause of death and to confirm the identity of the deceased. The case has been classified as sudden death,” he said in a statement today.
Pictures of the discovery of the skeleton went viral in social media yesterday and became a topic of public discussion.
Zaharudin added, in this matter, police sought the cooperation of the public to not disseminate any form of findings in relation to the discovery to avoid any speculation about the case.
“Such irresponsible acts could only cause worry and misunderstanding within society,” he said.
