PKR POLLS | A PKR minister and two of its MPs who are candidates in the ongoing party elections have been issued warning letters after complaints were lodged against them with the PKR Complaints, Appeal and Disciplinary Committee.

The trio is Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Xavier Jayakumar; Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and Hulu Selangor MP June Leow Hsiad Hui.

Both Jayakumar and Leow are vying for a seat on the PKR central leadership council while Akmal defended his position successfully as Johor Bahru PKR division leader in the state party polls on Sept 30.

In a statement issued today, the committee said warning letters had been issued against the trio but did not give its reasons, only saying that the complaints of election offences against them had been accepted.

Akmal had been accused by fellow contender Richard Tan of “coaching” members on voting day. He has since denied the allegation.

The committee said it would issue a warning letter against Akmal, but that the Johor Bahru results would be maintained.

Jayakumar has denied receiving any warning letter from the committee, calling the listing of his name an attempt to discredit him in the party polls.

The disciplinary committee had met on Oct 17 but only issued the decisions reached at the meeting today.

PKR is the only party in the country that allows its members to vote in a “one person, one vote” system for internal elections.

The party polls this year, which began on Sept 22, have been riddled with technical problems and allegations of misconduct.

Internal complaints and police reports have been lodged over a number of issues including membership irregularities, phantom voters and excluded ballots.

Jayakumar is aligned with incumbent PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, while Leow and Akmal are aligned with Azmin's competitor Rafizi Ramli.
