Former Lembaga Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim has been remanded for four days.

The remand, sought by MACC to facilitate investigations, was granted by the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.

Azeez's elder brother, Latiff Abdul Rahim, and cousin Mohamed Nazri, were also slapped with four-day remand orders.

The three were arrested by the MACC yesterday, and were held overnight for questioning.

They were brought to court today in handcuffs and the commission's orange lockup garb.

A small group, led by Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam, greeted Azeez at the court complex, chanting "Hidup Azeez" (long live Azeez) and "Takbir" upon the latter's arrival.

Soon after the May 9 elections, authorities raided Azeez's properties in Selangor and Kedah, seizing cash and valuables.

Azeez said that many of the timepieces seized by the authorities were counterfeits.

On May 23, MACC seized RM500,000 in cash and RM1.2 million in various currencies from Azeez's homes.

Bernama later reported that the raids were to facilitate investigations into the appointment of contractors involving Tabung Haji projects.

The case was investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 pertaining to soliciting or receiving gratification.
