The viral video clip depicting Umno members participating in a mock demonstration will send the message that the party is ready to "destroy" Pakatan Harapan, Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam said.
In a statement last night, Lokman said the demonstration, held at Umno's training centre in Janda Baik, Pahang, was proof that the party was ready to play opposition.
"With the video being circulated, it is evident that Umno, under the leadership of president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is preparing an 'army' to memusnahkan (destroy) Pakatan Harapan," Lokman said in a statement last night.
The video clip, which was circulated by blogger Milo Suam, had been mocked by netizens because Umno required formal training on demonstrations and also because the party had once condemned street protests.
The mock demonstration was part of a course on the basics of being an effective opposition that was held over the long Merdeka Day weekend.
A purported itinerary for the event also listed "coffeeshop debate" and "police report launching simulation" sessions were held.
Poor security
Lokman, who also heads the Pemantau Malaysia Baru NGO, thanked Milo Suam for circulating the clip.
"If they (Harapan supporters) know what happened during the three days (of the programme) then they would also know Umno's 'jihad' spirit, its members' bravery and their capability.
"Therefore, it can be said that Harapan's reign will not last for another six months," Lokman said.
However, Lokman acknowledged the leaking of the video clip was due to the lax security and blamed it on a Bersatu member who is still listed as an Umno member.
According to the description on Lokman's Facebook page, the course was jointly organised by his NGO and Umno's communications and media committee.
