Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the living proof that there is an alleged plot to prevent PKR president-designate Anwar Ibrahim from succeeding him, said Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid.
"The (first) evidence is the chemistry between Anwar and Dr Mahathir," he said as quoted by Utusan Online.
Abdullah went on to stress that it is incumbent upon Mahathir himself to prove the allegation wrong.
"The second evidence lies with the person (Mahathir) who is demanding for the evidence.
"It is on him, on Mahathir himself, because he would be the one to identify how long he wants to hold on to the position, how long (before) he wants to hand over (power). That is the evidence," said Abdullah, who is running for a position in PKR's central leadership council.
Mahathir had yesterday demanded proof from those who have accused him of plotting to prevent Anwar taking over as prime minister in two years time, a consensus reached by Pakatan Harapan parties prior to their GE14 victory.
With his trademark sarcastic humour, the 93-year-old politician described it as a "very nice allegation" as he had "never even talked to anybody else about this thing".
Abdullah earlier yesterday claimed that Mahathir and his trusted advisor Daim Zainuddin were colluding with Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali against Anwar.
Abdullah is aligned to former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli who is challenging Azmin for the PKR deputy president's post in the party polls.
'What cracks in Harapan?'
Abdullah, who once again repeated his claims, was similarly adamant that his remarks would not affect relations among Harapan parties.
"No effect. What effect? PKR and DAP combined have close to 100 seats. There is no effect whatsoever.
"The ones talking are not from DAP or PKR. The ones talking are from the minority party (Bersatu). Don't talk about division. Divisions do not happen in that way," he was further quoted as saying.
In response to Abdullah's earlier remarks, Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan yesterday cautioned PKR against "spreading slander" to others in Pakatan Harapan.
