PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali will likely defend his current party position instead of challenging Anwar Ibrahim for the top post.
This is according to Azmin's political secretary Hilman Idham, who stressed that his boss will stand behind Anwar.
"With regard to this matter, Azmin reacted positively when Anwar announced that he will be contesting for the position of PKR president.
"I believe he (Azmin) will defend his position of PKR deputy president.
"If Anwar indeed contests the party presidency, I am certain Azmin will stand behind him, as he has always done in leading PKR.
Hilman argued that Anwar as PKR president and Azmin as his deputy would make a formidable combination.
"It is said that it will be an unbeatable combination, and God willing, help form a better New Malaysia."
Anwar, who has long been the party's de facto leader, confirmed last Sunday that he will be contesting for the party presidency.
His wife, current president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has indicated that she will step aside for him.
Hilman's comment was made in response to posters circulating social media claiming that Wanita PKR Zuraida Kamaruddin had endorsed Azmin to challenge Anwar for the top post.
Hilman stressed that these posters were fake.
"We don't know where did they come from. As I have said, the grassroots can make any proposals they want, but the leadership will come to a decision.
"Azmin's loyalty to the party cannot be disputed," he said.
Earlier today at the Parliament press room, Azmin declined to comment at length when asked about his plans for the PKR election slated for November.
"Not yet, I will make an announcement," he said.
