The Pakatan Harapan government is intent on functioning as a "vacuum cleaner" to clean up the previous administration's mistakes, instead of introducing policies beneficial to the rakyat, said the Umno strategic communications unit.
In a statement today, the unit alleged that the government is also exploiting the enforcement authorities to "punish" members of the previous administration.
"While the rakyat continues to be saddled with the high cost of living, the fuel prices which refuses to go down, and cuts in allowances, the current regime exploits the police and the MACC to dig up dirt on the previous government, to show that they are 'cleaner'.
"After two months in power, they have yet to implement a foreign policy, as is the practice of new governments everywhere, and have not lined up an economic stimulation policy to improve the rakyat's standard if living, and to attract foreign investors," it said.
The unit then claimed that the rakyat has already begun to get tired of the government's excessive scrutiny on issues like the 1MDB and government-linked companies (GLCs).
It also questioned the insistence by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his cabinet that former premier Najib Abdul Razak was the mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal, despite a statement by the Swiss attorney-general Michael Lauber that says otherwise.
Lauber was recently quoted as saying that Switzerland is investigating six people on suspicion of money laundering, bribing foreign officials and other offences as part of an investigation into 1MDB, but Najib was not one of them.
'Harapan practices politics of vengeance'
Dragging Najib to court without "solid evidence", as well as seizing his passport and freezing his bank accounts are "inhumane" and reeked of politics of vengeance, the unit charged.
"Najib's government managed to fulfil 99.4 percent of the promises contained in (BN's) 13th general election manifesto, while Harapan is still finding reasons to mislead people.
"One of the 'flip-flops' that backfired is the decision to cancel several mega projects sealed during BN's time. For instance, the High-Speed Rail (HSR) between KL and Singapore was initially cancelled and later reinstated by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
"The same goes to the LRT3 project, the ECRL and other projects. The LRT3 project was given the green light again after its cost was reduced. Why wasn't a study conducted before the cancellation was announced?" asked the unit.
According to it, Harapan's approach to such issues is akin to egoistic primary school children, who know the importance of something, but it is too ashamed to admit it.
"The current government also behaves like a fish market, where it is bargaining prices with China, Singapore and other countries. This can affect Malaysia's reputation as a sovereign country.
"They are proud to exploit the police, the MACC and the Attorney-General's Chambers while ignoring what is good for the rakyat.
"Najib will be found guilty and put into prison like how (PKR de facto leader) Anwar (Ibrahim) was treated in 1998. This is actually the priority of the vengeful Harapan government," said the statement.
