Umno mulls ditching BN logo in Sg Kandis by-election

Umno is looking at ditching BN's logo in the upcoming Sungai Kandis by-election.

New Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan proposed today that the party contest the by-election using its own logo instead of that of the coalition, according to Sinar Harian.

Mohamad said the by-election can be a litmus test on the people's acceptance of the Umno logo.

"We need to transform Umno into a new product that is marketable, not stale. The same applies to BN, we need a new recipe to attract support.

"Perhaps we can test the market in Sungai Kandis by contesting under Umno instead of BN. Is that agreeable?" he asked at a Sinar Harian forum in Shah Alam.

However, Mohamad was then quoted by Bernama as saying that whether Umno goes ahead with such a plan would depend on discussions at the BN supreme council meeting.

BN now comprises just Umno, MCA and MIC, down from the 13 component parties it had going into the 14th general election.

The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant after its incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei passed away from cancer.

The Election Commission has set nomination day on July 21 while polling will take place on August 4.
