Pakatan Harapan has finalised the candidate for Dewan Rakyat speaker, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The Women, Family and Community Development minister said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad would announce the name of the Dewan Rakyat speaker either today or tomorrow.

“Yesterday we held a meeting and only one candidate,” she said after chairing the National Welfare Foundation Trustees Board meeting at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in Putrajaya today.

Parliament will sit for the first time after the 14th general election on Monday (July 16).

Among the names previously mentioned as candidates for the post were former socio-cultural advisor to the BN government, Rais Yatim, and DAP veteran and Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang.
