Attorney-general Tommy Thomas was unaware that High Court judge Sophian Abdul Razak, who is hearing the case against former premier Najib Abdul Razak, is related to a top Umno figure.

According to The Star, Thomas told reporters this after Najib was charged in court yesterday.

"This is the first time I am hearing of it," he said.

Justice Sophian is the younger brother of Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak, who is a five-term assemblyperson in Pahang and a four-time state exco member.

Incidentally, Najib also hails from Pahang.

He was charged yesterday for abusing his power as prime minister and finance minister to receive gratification amounting to RM42 million.

He also faces three charges for criminal breach of trust, in relation to the matter.
