The Royal Malaysia Police is to undergo a restructuring for performance improvement that will involve several departments and task forces, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
He said he attended a meeting and was given a briefing on the matter by the police senior management.
“Several task forces will be disbanded because we want a better outcome from the Royal Malaysia Police,” he said, adding that the decision on the restructuring would be known in a week or two after he gets more inputs from the police.
Muhyiddin spoke to reporters after attending an Aidilfitri ‘open house’ of the inspector-general of police at Bukit Aman.
He explained that the restructuring was for the performance improvement of the Royal Malaysia Police so as to regain the people’s confidence in the police and restore its image as a respected force.
Meanwhile, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the task forces which would be involved in the restructuring were the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (Stafoc), Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting).
“We will make an internal restructuring and revamp,” he said when approached at the function.
Fuzi said the Royal Malaysia Police would prepare a comprehensive report on the restructuring soon.
