Wanita Pakatan Harapan deputy chief Rina Mohd Harun was named as rural development minister in the new cabinet lineup led by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Rina, 44, was among the ‘giant killers’ in the 14th general election when she won the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat by overthrowing BN incumbent and former second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani.
She has been active in the country’s political arena since 2002 as Sepang Umno division Puteri chief and has held various positions in Puteri Umno, including Puteri Umno exco member in 2009, before joining Bersatu last year.
Rina, who is also Wanita Bersatu chief, has also been actively involved NGOs.
Raised in Jalan Gurney, Kuala Lumpur, Rina received her early education at SK Datuk Keramat 1 before continuing her secondary education at Sekolah Tun Fatimah, Johor Bahru.
Rina, who previously served in the banking sector, holds a diploma in business studies from Universiti Teknologi Mara and a Bachelor’s in banking and finance and management from Northwood University in Michigan.
