The appointment of Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Malaysia’s first female deputy prime minister continues to receive support and recognition.

Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, in a statement today, congratulated Wan Azizah, PKR president, on her appointment as deputy prime minister, and said she was proud of her historical achievement.

“Although we have a different political affiliation but as a mother and a female leader, I feel very proud of this historical achievement as a result of our efforts and the provisions of Allah.

“We are confident that Wan Azizah will perform well and reunite all Malaysians. Wishing her all the best under the blessings of Allah,” she said.

Wan Azizah’s appointment as deputy prime minister was announced by Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the seventh prime minister, as soon as the party was declared victory in the 14th general election.
