Penang BN today announced its candidates for the 14th general election at the state Gerakan state headquarters on Jalan Macalister.

State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, who attended the announcement, later handed over the “surat watikah” (authorisation letters) to the candidates contesting Penang's 13 parliamentary and 40 state seats.

"Of 53 candidates, 60 percent (31) are newcomers, virgins who will contest for the first time, with the youngest aged 31," Teng said to loud cheers from the crowd...
