GE14 | Kedah football legend Radhi Mat Din has been nominated as PAS' new face for the Pokok Sena parliamentary seat in the 14th general election.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang announced the name of the 53-year-old former national footballer at the GE14 “Gelombang Hijau” rally which took place at the party's Alor Ibus division headquarters here tonight.
Radhi, also known as ‘Captain Marvel’, will contest against incumbent an Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar.
Mahfuz left PAS on Dec 31 after 34 years with the party.
Abdul Hadi also announced another new face, Muhamad Riduan Mohd Othman, 43, as the candidate for the Kuala Kedah parliamentary seat.
He will take on against incumbent Dr Azman Ismail, who is also Kedah PKR chairperson.
Meanwhile, Kedah PAS commissioner Ahmad Fakhrudin Sheikh Fakhrurrazi, 47, is slated for the Pengkalan Kundur state seat. He is likely to take on Pahrolrazi Zawawi from Amanah.
'Limit powers of syura council'
Hadi also revealed that several Amanah leaders tried to limit the powers of the party’s syura council while they were still party members.
Hadi said that as the action of these individuals were deemed to have violated the PAS constitution and this caused anger among the party members, these individuals were eventually defeated when they contested in the 2015 PAS annual congress.
“They did try, at that time, to table a motion at the congress, to limit the syura council’s powers to an advisory role only rather than having the highest powers in making decisions in PAS as they do now.
“This move violated the PAS constitution and what happened was the congress rejected the motion, they were then eliminated when they did not win any party posts,” he told reporters after launching the 41st Pokok Sena PAS general assembly in Alor Setar today.
Also present were PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin and secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
