KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.
Najib dissolves Parliament
Parliament is to be dissolved today, paving way for BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak to seek a second mandate in a general election that has to be called in 60 days.
Najib doesn't skip a beat and immediately brandish BN's report card - of which he claimed 99.4 percent of promises has been fulfilled - and calls Pakatan Harapan's manifesto a "copy and paste" job.
He called on Malaysians to give him a bigger mandate this time round in order for BN to continue its process of "transforming" Malaysia.
However, he stressed that Malaysia practices a first-past-the-post system which means that even if a coalition wins the popular vote, it doesn't necessarily mean that it has a right to govern.
Najib's demeanour during the announcement on the dissolution of Parliament did not impress his former deputy Muhyiddin Yassin, who said the BN chief looked like a “coward”.
Harapan to use PKR logo
Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced last night that his coalition will use PKR's logo at the elections following Harapan's futile efforts to be registered as a coalition by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
Mahathir's party Bersatu, which was provisionally dissolved by the ROS, would continue to function as normal. Bersatu is challenging ROS' decision in court.
Mahathir also accused Najib of attempting to "kill" democracy in Malaysia by erecting stumbling blocks for the legitimate opposition.
DAP co-founder Dr Chen Man Hin was not happy that his party would not be using its ‘rocket’ logo on the ballot paper for the first time since 1969, but his other party comrades said this was a necessary sacrifice.
