Forty-seven of the 249 complaints received by the Registry of Societies (ROS) on Bersatu were related to violations of the party's constitution, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
He said Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not blame ROS for deliberately delaying the approval of the coalition's registration under Pakatan Harapan as the party had violated the provisions under its own constitution.
"ROS has acted professionally and they have no interest in any political organisation," he told reporters after chairing a special committee meeting to address congestion at the Johor Causeway and Linkedua today.
Zahid, who is also home minister, said as a leader who had led the government, Mahathir should be aware that the functions of ROS were to administer and enforce the Societies Act 1966 and to ensure that societies or political associations conducted their activities based on their registered rules.
"The ignorance is on their part as they had sent delegates who were not elected at division level to the annual general meeting and division representatives were not elected at the branch level," he said.
On the DAP central executive committee (CEC) re-election on Nov 12, which had complied with all the requirements as directed by ROS, he said a letter had been issued to the DAP CEC yesterday.
"This letter is to confirm the DAP had complied with ROS directives and as a political party had followed the rules as set in the party's constitution," he said.
Earlier it was reported that internal issues with Bersatu and DAP were among reasons for delays in approving Harapan registration. - Bernama
