An estimated 300 people turned up for the funeral of S Sathiswaran, a 15-year-old boy who was killed after being struck by a falling office chair at the Sri Pantai public housing scheme.

According to The Star, some of those who attended the funeral yesterday were crying openly, while the victim's mother S Kasthuri Bai, 45, was inconsolable.

Some of Sathiswaran's schoolmates from SMK La Salle were also among those in attendance.

Sathiswaran was laid to rest at the MBPJ Damansara Hindu cemetery.

Police have classified the case as murder. If charged, the culprit will face the mandatory death sentence.

Thus far, the police have interviewed 31 witnesses and obtained DNA samples from five of them.

The Sri Pantai public housing scheme is operated by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. Like most public housing schemes, rent is low, but maintenance is severely lacking.

People living there complain about how residents often throw rubbish from the upper floors, with absolute disregard for those living below.
