Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali and PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin are expected to contest the Shah Alam and Hulu Langat parliamentary seats in the next general election, according to a source.

It said their names, along with the names of the seats, were submitted at a meeting of the Selangor Pakatan Harapan Election Committee here today.

PAS had contested and won the two seats for the opposition in the 13th general election.

“PKR may contest the two seats, but the matter is under discussion and requires the agreement of all component parties of Pakatan Harapan,” said the source after the meeting.

Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, is now the MP for Gombak and the state assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa, while Zuraida (photo) is the MP for Ampang.

In GE13, Khalid Abdul Samad (now of Amanah) won the Shah Alam seat for PAS by beating Zulkifli Noordin of BN by 10,939 votes, while Che Rosli Che Mat of PAS won the Hulu Langat seat by beating Adzhaliza Mohd Nor of BN by 17,267 votes.

Selangor Harapan Election Committee director Dr Zavier Jayakumar said it would be determined by the end of this month which of the Pakatan Harapan component parties would contest the 25 Selangor state seats now held by PAS and BN.

He said discussions were going on among the four component parties on the distribution of seats.

Selangor PPBM election director Abdul Rashid Ansari said the party would not necessarily contest seats also contested by Umno but would field candidates in any appropriate seat.

Selangor has 56 state seats, of which DAP holds 14, PKR and PAS 13 each, BN 12 and Amanah and independents two each.
